Storing Butane in the Home

These lighters are powered by gaseous butane which is aerosolized by the jet when the fuel release mechanism is tripped. This fuel is generally safe but one needs to make certain they follow basic safety precautions when carrying it around on a camping, fishing or hunting trip.
First and foremost, the butane must be kept away from high heat conditions. The canister will give the range of safe temperatures. Exceeding these temperatures by either storing the canister in an environment which is too hot or too cold can result in the canister rupturing. This, of course, will result in a cloud of butane being released. While the butane is liquid while in the can, this is entirely dependent upon the pressure in that environment. Absent this pressure, it quickly becomes a gas and, if open flame is nearby, can cause an explosion.
While butane which has been released from a can will not explode in the proper sense, it will create a fireball that is enough to cause severe burns. The valve on the tank can release the fuel if a wire or other device is used to trip the mechanism. This is far too tempting a thing to trust to children and there are ample opportunities for them to injure themselves with one of these gas canisters. Treat these canisters with no less seriousness than one would treat any other flammable fuel. They may be sold in the household goods section but they are dangerous if mistreated.
Some lighters, such as the many well-known Zippo pipe lighter designs, use liquid-fuel. This fuel is not as vulnerable to temperature changes as is butane but also requires that it be stored safely. The principal danger with liquid fuel is presented in the form of spills. This fuel not only presents a fire hazard, it will ruin finished and painted surfaces, in many cases. Always make certain that there is no way that children can access lighter fuel of any type. While it's safe enough when handled by adultsFree Reprint Articles, it presents a very real hazard to children.

Selecting the Right Butane Lighter

Those who like an ultra-modern look may enjoy one of the many Lotus lighters on the market. Many of these are of the torch variety which offer a clean-burning, blue flame which will light under just about any conditions. The sound of the flame itself is an attractive element of these designs and the characteristic roaring sound is sure to turn heads. The case designs span from simple and elegant to downright futuristic.
There are several different grades of butane available. If one makes the investment required for a good lighter"it is surprisingly affordable, actually"they should make the corresponding investment in lighter fluids. Look for fuel that advertises zero-impurities. This means that the lighter will perform at peak levels and that the blue flame, or flames, will burn hot enough and bright enough for everyone to see.
Refueling these lighters is a very easy affair. The canisters used to dispense the butane are designed to mate with the receivers on the bottom of these lighters which ensures that there are no mishaps. One should never attempt to force an incorrect adapter or to use a fuel other than butane in these lighters. There are various grades of butane available on the market. If one has purchased an elegant lighter, it makes sense to purchase a high grade of butane to go with it. The performance, of course, will also be much better.
A lighter should say something about the individual who carries it. Someone who spends a great deal of time at business meetings or elegant affairs may prefer a slim, classy butane that can light a cigar without a hint of fuel flavor. Someone who spends a lot of time on a motorcycle may prefer a classic chrome Zippo that lights under any conditions and that offers the head-turning "snap" when the lid is put back into place. Either way, there are plenty of models from which one may choose and the best ones will likely hold up for a lifetime.

Zippo Maintenance

As anyone who has ever spilled it on a painted surface certainly knows, lighter fluid is an excellent solvent. The lighter fluid itself can be used to wipe away any carbon or other impurities from the lighter. Simply put a small amount on a cotton swab and clean around the workings of the lighter. For the best results, pull out the flint and clean around the wheel, around the screen and around the wick and lever. In no time, the lighter will be looking like new!
Squirt a bit of fluid into the reservoir, let it soak for a few seconds and then repeat the process until the cotton is saturated. Remember to give the fuel a while to be absorbed. Putting too much fuel in quickly makes a huge mess which may not be realized until the lighter is placed into a pocket. Once the lighter is filled, put the felt back in place and return it to the lighter. Be sure to let the lighter sit for a while to make certain that any extra fuel has a chance to evaporate. The lighter may well emit a larger than normal flame on the first light after refueling, so be aware of this when turning the flint wheel for the first time.
Refill lighters over a sink. This makes sure that there is no fire hazard posed by spilled fluid and also makes sure that the fluid doesn't damage any surfaces with which it may come into contact. When the lighter is filled and ready, be sure to rinse out the sink and to clean up any surfaces. Of course, never leave lighter-fluid soaked rags laying about. Rinse them out and wash them as soon as possible.
While the butane models are attractive and durable, there is something about the look and feel of liquid-fueled lighters which makes them irresistible to some individuals. If one desires an equally environmentally-friendly and non-disposable alternative, however, considering a butane model is a good idea. They have a style all their own, come in a variety of designs and can provide a service life that is comparable to their liquid-fueled predecessors. As is the case with ZipposScience Articles, price does translate to quality.

The Best Fuel for Refillable Lighters

Making certain that one gets the best flavor starts with how the cigar is lit. There are various means of doing this and some cigar smokers have very strong preferences for and against certain means. The most controversial way cigars are lit is with liquid-fueled refillable lighters.
The nozzle on a can of butane is designed to fit perfectly with the receiver on a refillable lighter. Anything that doesn't quite fit is most certainly not the correct fuel and one should not attempt to make it work by force. This can ruin the lighter as much as can using the incorrect fuel.
Butane torch lighters have rapidly become the most popular way to light cigars among aficionados. These lighters impart no taste at all as the gaseous fuel is consumed very efficiently by the lighter. There are different grades of fuel available but, where butane lighters advertise no impurities, it's not so much a question of whether or not the fuel will be tasted as it is a question of reliability and taking care of the lighter itself. These lighters are available in exotic designs which feature double and triple flames, upscale styling and beautiful finishes. They have become favorites among dedicated cigar smokers.
Substituting any other fuel for butane or lighter fluid will most certainly destroy a lighter and may pose a safety risk to the user. Butane lighters, in particular, must only be fueled with butane and only from a can which fits exactly the filling adapter at the bottom of the lighter. These lighters are fairly sensitive devices but, treated properlyBusiness Management Articles, they can offer years of reliable service. Attempting to mate an improperly-fitting refill can will seriously damage the valve and certainly means that the refilling canister is not meant to be used with butane lighters.

Differences Between the Blends of Different Size Cigars in the Same Line

Size is the most important factor when it comes to the reason cigar blends in the same line differ. A smaller cigar, which is shorter and more narrow, will have a different taste than a large cigar in the same line. When you have a smaller cigar, you are going to get more taste of the wrapper for one thing. Also, you will simply not have the same ratio of tobacco to wrapper and binder as you would with a larger cigar unless the manufacturer changes the blends slightly.
Other things can change the taste of a cigar as well. For example, if you don't use butane lighters, you might get a different taste in your cigar that was imparted through chemicals in the lighter you use. Butane doesn't cause this problem. The next time you are buying cigars, you might want to do an experiment. Buy two cigars from the same line, but make sure they are different sizes.
You can see the blends in cigars by cutting them and looking at them. You can use a large cigar and a small cigar so that you can see the blend inside. You will find that dark tobaccos are often used in the middle of the cigar and lighter colored tobaccos are used closer to where the tobacco meets the wrapper. You will be able to see that the blends might look similar, but the larger cigar is going to have more of each type of tobacco, thus imparting a fuller flavor in most cases.
As your knowledge grows, you will find that you can tell the difference between the light and the dark tobaccosFeature Articles, and this will help you choose a cigar that you will enjoy. Take some time to experiment with different blends so that you can find the type of cigar that you like the best.
